Changes to bus services in Mid-Sussex from 1st October 2016

From Saturday 1st October Compass Travel will be taking over the services previously operated by, the services involved are 28, 29, 31, 33, 37, 39, 40, 40X, 134, 135, 136, 137, 331 and 431 as well as shoppers buses SH1, EB1 and TS2. Changes to Bus Times

There will be no changes to timetables except on a Saturday service 33 will no longer operate between Hurstpierpoint and Brighton.

Changes to Fares and Concessionary Travel

From Saturday 1st October some fares will change to bring them in line with other Compass Bus services. There will be a small increase to some single and return fares but most weekly tickets prices will be reduced.

Concessionary travel passes will continue to be accepted for free travel on all services after 09:30 (09:00 in Brighton) but will no longer obtain half fare before the standard scheme commencement times. Further information about concessionary travel can be found by clicking here.

Red Rider tickets will be renamed Mid-Sussex Rider and will continue to be available to purchase from the driver for travel on the former services, at least for the time being these tickets will not be accepted on other Compass Bus services. Weekly and Monthly tickets issued by on or before the 30th September 2016 will be accepted until their expiry date. Annual/Season and longer term tickets issued by will be accepted up until the 31st October 2016, passengers holding tickets valid beyond 31st October 2016 should contact on 0800 6 525151 to obtain a refund on the unused portion of the ticket.

Other operators Burgess Hill Town Saver and Haywards Heath Town Saver tickets will continue to be accepted in these towns. Other operators return or weekly tickets and Brighton & Hove Saver tickets will not be accepted on any of these services. All other operators Discovery tickets are accepted on all services.

Additional information about Services 40 and 40X

These services are no longer operated with any support from the NHS Hospitals Trust so regrettably free travel for patients is no longer available on services 40 and 40x, free travel for patients is available on Metrobus services 271 and 272.

NHS Staff may purchase travel tickets at half fare on production of an NHS Staff ID.

Initially Service 40X will be operated on behalf of Compass Travel by Southdown PSV or Seaford and District, comments and suggestions about this service should be directed to Compass Travel.

Real Time Bus Information

Initially Real-time bus information won’t be available for the services previously operated by we will be working to get this reinstated as soon as possible.

Please bear with us at in the early days of the new operation as everyone gets used to the new services. Because of the short notice that we have taken these services on we are doing our very best here at Compass to bring in all the changes required as smoothly as possible, including getting roadside publicity updated as soon as we can, some vehicles will be on short term hire to us and others not yet painted into Compass Bus colours, we would ask passengers to bear with us during the transition period.
