Concessionary Passes

Concessionary Travel Cards: English National Concessionary Cards are issued by your local authority on behalf of the Government. To find out if you are entitled to an Older Persons Concessionary Travel Card please click here. If you need information about applying for a Disabled Persons Concessionary Travel card please click here. English National Concessionary Travel Card holders are entitled to free travel at certain times subject to the rules set down by each local authority, providing they present their card to the driver at the time of boarding. We regret that cards issued by Scottish or Welsh authorities are NOT valid.

In Brighton, Older Persons and Disabled Persons Concessionary Travel Cards issued by Brighton & Hove Council are accepted on all normal Compass Bus services after 09:00 Monday to Friday, and any time weekends and Bank Holidays. On Mondays-Fridays, passes issued by any other English authority are only valid after 09:30.

In East Sussex, Older Persons and Disabled Persons Concessionary Travel Cards issued by any English authority are accepted on all normal Compass Bus services after 09:30 Monday to Friday, and any time weekends and Bank Holidays.

In West Sussex, Older Persons Concessionary Travel Cards issued by any English authority are accepted on all normal Compass Bus services after 09:30 Monday to Friday, and any time weekends and Bank Holidays. Disabled Persons Concessionary Travel Cards are valid at any time if issued by one of the following authorities: Adur, Arun, Chichester, Crawley, Horsham, Mid Sussex, Worthing and West Sussex County Council. On Mondays-Fridays, Disabled Person passes issued by any other English authority are only valid after 09:30.

In Surrey, Older Persons and Disabled Persons Concessionary Travel Cards issued by any English authority are accepted on all normal Compass Bus services after 09:30 Monday to Friday, and any time weekends and Bank Holidays.

“Companion” Cards: Some Disabled Persons passes allow a Companion to travel free as well as the card-holder. These are normally only valid in the County of issue. However, West Sussex, and East Sussex County Councils have reciprocal agreements which allow the companion person to travel free across these counties, East Sussex and Kent County Councils also have a reciprocal agreement for travel in these two counties.

Examples of the cards accepted are illustrated below, while the county logo will vary depending on where the card was issued the other features are standard, cards issued in London may vary in design.
